After a long day of editing, meetings and/or going to events, I need to unwind and de-stress from it all. Everyone has different ways they shut off from the world but these are my 6 favorite ways to do so. They may seem simple not that spectacular but they do help me and go a long way in helping me take care of myself.
1. Listen to music
If you don’t know, I’m a hugeeeee music head. I’ve always loved listening to music and listening to a great song/album after a long day is one of my favorite ways to unwind. I listen to all types of music such as techno, EDM, rap, pop, house, etc. I’m not a huge afrobeats/Nigerian music fan but I do love myself some Wizkid, Maleek Berry, Ajebutter22 and Juls.
Depending on the mood, I listen to various artists and records. I’m currently listening to Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’. That song makes me so hype!
2. Cook a great meal for my family
I love to cook and when I’m in a mood, cooking is my go-to. My favorite things to cook are pasta and chicken and I can make the best shakshouka you have ever laid your eyes on. Cooking just distresses me in a way I don’t understand. Maybe all the chopping and seasoning and basting just allows me to focus on the food and not the day I’ve had.
I’m planning on posting cooking videos to my Youtube channel. Weird but I want to try new types of content and see how that works. Subscribe so you don’t miss it!
3. Read a book
When I was younger, I used to love to read books (my favorite books were the Harry Potter series). Now that I’m older, I’ve kinda lost the habit but I have started reading more and more books again. Reading allows me to carry my mind to other places, worlds and galaxies and makes my imagination soar. Once I’ve found a good book, I can’t put it down and I have to finish it all at once! My favorite books are fantasy novels (magic especially) that have strong female characters in the lead roles.
I’m currently reading ‘Fire Study’ by Maria V Snyder. It’s the third book in the Study series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the final chapters.
4. Watch Youtube videos
I mean, I am a Youtube creator as well so consuming Youtube would make sense. The kind of content I watch tho differs from the kind I create. I watch videos on science, history, mythology and videos that explain how the world works. I love learning and watching videos like these help my mind grow as I learn new things. Sure, I watch makeup, fashion and lifestyle videos but sometimes, I don’t want to watch another makeup tutorial.
If you want me to do a post about my favorite not makeup/fashion Youtube channels are, let me know in the comment section below!
5. Eat ice cream and chocolate
So cliche but so true! I love to just sit back and relax with a tub of ice cream, break some chocolate pieces into it and just inhale it into my system lool. I know it’s not the healthiest way to unwind but sometimes, you just really need an ice cream break.
My favorite flavor is cookie dough or anything that has oreos or caramel inside. What’s yours?
I have been swimming since I was 5 years old and it never fails to help me unwind. I don’t have access to a pool as much as I would like but I try my best to go when I can.
What are your favorite ways to unwind? I have tons more but these are the common ways I unwind and relax after a long ass day. Let me know yours in the comment section below!
