Everybody HATES January. Or they talk about January like they hate it. I think it’s because January literally refuses to end and it just drags on and on and on. I think we had like 10 Mondays in January (we had 5 but it felt like 10)

Upon all how long January felt, a lot of dope stuff happened this month. I feel like January was the month of sitting down and really figuring out what I wanted out of the year. Cliche I know but that was what January was for me. I’m glad it’s ending but I’m grateful for the wonderful things that happened. Here are 7 awesome things that made me happy in January.

1. One year anniversary

Tunde and I celebrated our one year anniversary. The people of the internet said we shouldn’t be celebrating relationships but I really don’t give two fucks.  After being single for 3/4 years, being with someone as awesome as Tunde is something worth celebrating.

2. My blog is 6 years old!

A post shared by Deola Adebiyi (@d3ola) on

I really can’t believe my little blog that I started has grown into my full time blog. Never in my wildest dreams did I know we were going to get this far. I’ve gone through a lot when it comes to my blog and there are several times I’ve wanted to quit but something inside of me keeps me going. Thank you to all of the wonderful people that read, share and comment on my blog posts. I’m really trying to create better content (especially for the blog) and I hope you all enjoy it.

3. 1,000 subscribers on Youtube

It all happened in a blur – literally. One minute, I’m begging people on Twitter to subscribe because of the new Youtube ad policies and the next, I’m almost at 2,000 subscribers. I don’t know how I will thank you guys. What I do know is that I’m going to work harder, edit better and be the best that I can be when it comes to Youtube. If you haven’t subscribed, you can subscribe HERE

4. Bonding with my mom over natural hair

This happened just recently but I helped my mom do the big chop on my Youtube channel. She has been talking about going natural for a while and we finally did the big chop. It was fun bonding with my mom over natural hair and getting to learn more about her natural hair journey. If you haven’t seen that video, you can watch it HERE

5. Bunching at Nok at Alara

A post shared by Deola Adebiyi (@d3ola) on

I know, I know. How can something so simple make me so happy? You have to understand that I’ve always wanted to go to Nok and have brunch. It’s something so bougie but I’ve always wanted to eat there. When the opportunity sprang up, I took it and boy, I enjoyed it. You have to go to Nok – even if it’s just for the vibes. I promise you won’t hate it – you might even just love it

6. Making my vision board

Before I made this vision board, I was so not into them. It was Sisi Yemmie’s video that really pushed me and made me create my own (you can watch the process of how I made my vision board HERE). I love looking at the board everyday and seeing my goals. It makes me think of the steps I need to take to make it all happen. I’ve already checked one thing off my list of goals (more on that later)

7. My brother embracing his musical side

A post shared by ADG (@yinka_xvii) on

If you don’t know, my brother is a rapper. It’s something we have spoken about several times and I’ve always encouraged him to follow his dreams and pursue his passion for music. I’m glad he did and he has released two songs and is releasing another soon. Head over to his Soundcloud page and give his songs a listen. Let him know I sent you!

What made you happy in January? It could be as simple or as complicated as you want. Let me know in the comment section below!

I’m happy January was good to you, Deola! Congratulations on the anniversary 🙂 Will you make this a monthly routine? You should!

January was quite busy for me and I took some major and minor Ls, but thankfully it wasn’t all bad. Things that made me happy- good hair days, having a successful meet and greet, my friend’s wedding, spending time with my BFF, finally dyeing my hair and going to see The Greatest Showman.

What a beautiful fun January you had and Congratulations on your anniversary.
My January wasn’t bad but I wish I had more days. It went by so fast. My 9yr old younger daughter decide to loc her hair like mine so January was all about making sure it’s all locked.

Wishing you a great February ahead.
