I haven’t done an Adventures in Lagos post in a whileeeeeeeee but I’m back with a post and an adventure I’ve always wanted to take – South Eatery & Social House
South Eatery & Social House is a restaurant/bar/social house has been open since July last year. I’ve always wanted to go but I either had no time or no money lool.
Last week Wednesday, Coco messaged me out of the blue and said ‘Let’s go to South’ which was a bit shocking because I’m the one that always suggested the restaurants or ‘bougie’ spots for us visit. Turns out that South Eatery has an open mic night on Wednesdays and our friend Eze, who’s in a band btw, was playing with Maka, a Nigerian soul singer.
First off, I love the vibe that South Eatery has. I just don’t know how to explain it. It’s very cool and sophisticated and it looks like the perfect place for drinks with friends after work. I hear they have some pretty nice cocktails which I’ll def be trying when I go back
Open mic was so so fun! Maka’s voice is beautiful and she sanggggggggggg! There were also other people that performed – there was one guy who I can’t remember but had an amazing voice as well. If I knew South Eatery had such a fun open mic, I would have dragged my brother to come perform.
As for food …
Coco got the jalapeños potato salad which is described as ‘hearty creamy southern potato salad with chopped bacon, cheddar, celery and jalapeños.’ Coco had never tasted jalapeños before having this salad so we were worried she wouldn’t like it but she loveeeeeeeed it.
I had a couple of bites of the salad and I loved it too. I had a deep love of jalapeños so this salad was everything and more for me. It does tend to get tiring tho – there is a lot of cream and cheese and that can get a bit bland if you’re like me and you eat all the jalapeños and bacon. This is a salad that needs to be eaten with all it’s components for you to get the real enjoyment out of it.
I had ‘The Shrimp Roll’ which is described as ‘toasted rolls filled with fresh shrimp, celery, chives, smoked paprika mixed with tarragon mayo.’ I didn’t want a burger even though I’ve heard that South Eatery makes one of the best burgers in Lagos so I decided to go for something familiar but interesting at the same time.
I absolutely loved this! The soft and tasty shrimp complimented the crunchy celery and chives. I hate mayo but this mayo tasted very good. It wasn’t regular mayo – it was bougie mayo lool.
Would I recommend you go to South – YES! Go for the open mic (happens every Wednesday), get a few cocktails and have a good time. The vibe is perfect, the food is great and good music paired with good food is always the way forward.
