Welcome to Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2016! For the four days of fashion and fun, I’ll be putting up daily recaps which include pictures of my favorite pieces from each collection + a mini review. I should be getting these up the next day by noon but with how late LFDW ends (first day ended by 11pm), I may not stick to that noon time but I will have these up.

Let’s get into my Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2016 Day 1 recap

Belois Couture

This collection was a strong way to start off fashion week. Cohesive collection with interesting cuts and shades of red. It was a bit forgettable but I definitely liked this collection.

Wanger Ayu

dsc_0057-1024x683

I always have high hopes for Wanger Ayu but this is the second time they are disappointing me. The collection was no where near cohesive and the gingham print was borderline housegirl wear. I was stanning for you girl; what happened?

Style Temple

Style Temple cam out of the blue to show us how it is done. I loved most, if not all, of the collection. My favorite part of the collection is the chosen color palette – grey/white. Everything made sense with this collection. Everything.

TitiBelo

TitiBelo was all about sexy workwear which I approve of. My favorite looks from her collection were the black pieces. TitiBelo looks like she can cut a good suit jacket; maybe she should consider menswear.

Boring. Nothing new here. Next please.

AboutThatCurvylife x MaBello

dsc_0135-1024x683

dsc_0134-1024x683

The AboutThatCurvyLife collective started with MaBello and Beyonce (Grown Woman was the song that played for this show) and it fit so well. The ATCL collective was my second best part of the night (my favorite part of last night is coming up). MaBello is amazing at what she does and this collective allowed her to show that to the world.

AboutThatCurvyLife x Tosfa

Tosfa showed us that plus-sized girls can be sexy. Loved it all.

AboutThatCurvyLife x Assian

dsc_0152-1024x683

The only plus-sized menswear brand that showed under the AboutThatCurvyLife collective. I really wish i understood what the bandages were about but apart from that, I liked the collection.

AboutThatCurvyLife x Aisha Abubakr Luxury

I like this collection and I don’t like it. The fringe and volume were my favorite part but everything else was bleh.

AboutThatCurvyLife x Makioba

Makioba ended the collective and it was a perfect way to end it all. Great clothing, cohesive and the styles fit. Love it all!

My favorite part of this collection was the story – a young man/woman growing up and facing the realities of life. The bomber jackets/print tees were also part of  my favorites of the night and I predict that they are going to sell out like CRAZY so you better put in your orders now.

Rayo

dsc_0188-1024x683

Rayo never disappoints me. The collection had a clear story and aesthetic with it and those hatssss! My favorite piece was the print culottes. I know I can’t afford them but I can dream

Kinabuti

dsc_0199-1024x683

dsc_0198-1024x683

Never liked the Kinabuti aesthetic but they made me dislike them more by presenting fur jackets. Fur? In Lagos? Next please!

Tokyo James

Tokyo James can cut a meannnnn suit! He needs to look into making suits his thing.

Onalaja

dsc_0222-1024x683

dsc_0225-1024x683

The collection was an ode to black women and the melanin that we have. The collection was made up of various shades of brown and had some silver and gold thrown in. When I die, please bury me in this beautiful Onalaja metallic jacket. Please.

Sisiano

And here comes my favorite part of Day 1 – Mayowa Nicolas closing the Sisiano show. Sisiano never fails to amazing me and reinvent his signature – draping and volume. The clothing always looks so easy and flows so well.

Vlisco x Lanre Da Silva Ajayi

dsc_0255-1024x683

dsc_0254-1024x683

Vlisco was one of the sponsors of this years LFDW and they had three designers show with Vlisco fabrics. I won’t lie, I was tired by this time so I didn’t pay a lot of attention to this part of the show.  LDA killed it as usual but it was a tad bit recycled.

Vlisco x Loza Maleombho

dsc_0256-1024x683

The Loza show was missing something. It wasn’t it’s usual quirky and fun self.

Vlisco x Elie Kaume

dsc_0261-1024x683

dsc_0259-1024x683

I don’t know who Elie is but I loved his stuff! That blue organza piece is everything and more!

DZYN

dsc_0268-1024x683

dsc_0272-1024x683

dsc_0263-1024x683

The last show of the night was one of my favorites and it’s a shame that the hall was half-empty for this. DZYN really pulled out the stops and everything looks so good. I expect to see some of these looks on the red carpet.

That’s it for my day 1 recap of Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2016. Let me know in the comment section what your favorite show of the night was!

Stay fab!
