I was hard at work and catching up on fashion news when I saw the link for ‘Lagos Rising’, a story about the rise of the luxury market in Nigeria with Reni Folawiyo, founder of concept retail store, Alara, as the central tie in. For the piece, they had photographer, Nick Waplington, come down to Lagos to take pictures of the most fashionable ladies in Lagos. I love how Nigeria is getting on the map now for fashion and we aren’t always in the news about Boko Haram and other horrible things. It’s also weird typing this piece about rich women and fashion when about 50 kids died yesterday from a suicide bomb in Yobe.
They were at school. I didn’t know that going to school could get you killed now.
I don’t know how to feel about Nigeria anymore actually.
That was a downer, huh?
Please keep Nigeria in your prayers. You might think you are unaffected and these attacks won’t hit you in your comfy house in Lekki/Banana Island/Wuse/Port Harcourt but we never know what might happen tomorrow.
On to the fashion. Peep the images of the piece below and check out an except of the interview here.
